About is UMIN?

UMIN was established in 1989 as a cooperative organization for national medical schools in Japan, sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, Sports and Technology (MEXT), Japan. Its most services are now made available to other heath care researchers via the Internet. Its purposes are as follows:

  • To provide up-to-date information to healthcare professionals
  • To promote communications between healthcare professionals
  • To support collaborative work among university hospitals
  • To support collaborative medical research
  • To standardize medical data and collect hospital statistics
  • To support education and training at hospitals.

UMIN is now the largest and most versatile academic network informaiton center for biomedical sciences in the world, and it is now considered as indispensable information infrastructure for the Japanese medical community.
