What is UMIN?
ĦĦUMIN, or University Medical Information Network is an on-line
network and collaborating structure which serves all medical
school-affiliated hospitals in Japan.
ĦĦThe objectives of UMIN are as following.
- To provide up-to-date information to healthcare professionals.
- To support collaborative work/research among university hospitals.
- To promote standardization of medical data and hospital
statistics.
ĦĦThe main computer system of UMIN is located at the University
of Tokyo Hospital. The system is supported by the NACSIS
network, a nation-wide TCP-IP/packet exchange backbone, sponsored
by the Ministry of Education. On-line service of UMIN includes
E-mail,news,various database search, Gopher, FTP and WWW servers
for public and members. Staffs at each hospital can use their own
terminals to make an access to the UMIN free of charge. By the end
of 1994, forty-two national university hospitals joined the system,
and more than 5000 are registered as members. Membership is now
available to healthcare professionals who are members of academic
organizations.
ĦĦWe are sorry that most of UMIN database are written in Japanese (KANJI),
